Artist StatementDemelza is a recent Fine Art graduate from Falmouth University who lives and works in Cornwall
Demelza's work is predominantly about the representation of place through colour. She focuses on one place at a time using a specific method in order to create. Collecting, walking, and experiencing are all part of the initial stage of creating work as well as spending time in each environment. It is important that when Demelza creates a painting that it reflects the location in the way she remembers it. Once the colour palette is created, the composition is often unsystematic. The aesthetical qualities of her paintings are important too such as the contrast between line and the fluid paint surface which are often included which achieved through using oil paint. It is interesting the way the line sits on the surface and breaks up the colour. Also the way she uses line allows the painting to be linked to a location by the representation of a map and the edge of the land. |
